I’m not sure what it was about this week, but for someone who is naturally happy, I started the week off feeling a little blue. Some of this is probably due to pregnancy hormones (they can change a mood pretty quickly). But I think another part is the disruption of our so-called normal lives by the coronavirus.
After taking some quiet time in the morning to think about it a little more, I realized that we have been more fortunate than a lot of people during this time. My husband and I have both kept our jobs and our health, but I do worry about the impact the situation will have on my labor and delivery process. Realizing that there is not much I can do about this, I made it a goal for myself to focus on some of the positive things around me for the week.
This helped me come up with the idea to create a weekly post about some of my favorite things from the week that helped put a smile on my face. My hope is that by sharing some of my favorite things (and yes, every time I write this I start singing the song from the Sound of Music) that it will help put a smile on your face as well ๐
A New book
Clive Cussler’s Poseidon’s Arrow
I always loved to read growing up, but during grad school, I was reading so many scientific manuscripts that I just didn’t have it in me to read any more during my free time. But with traveling more frequently for work (prior to the coronavirus), I started picking up reading again. And now I remember why I loved it so much. It is such a great feeling to be taken on a thrilling adventure or to a new world without ever leaving your home.
The Clive Cussler Dirk Pitt series has been a long time favorite of mine. I seriously feel as though I could finish reading one of the books in just one sitting. They are that much of a page-turner. I still remember the look of shock on my teacher’s face when I picked one of his novels to do a book report on in the fourth grade. I’ve read every book in the series up until Poseidon’s Arrow and cannot wait to continue the adventure with some of my favorite characters!
Maternity shorts
I don’t know what it was, but I had a pretty challenging time finding activewear maternity shorts. There were plenty of cute shorts, but nothing that would allow me to perform a workout in them. And while I have a couple of pairs of maternity leggings that are great, it gets hot (and I mean realllly hottt) in the summer in Texas. And with a due date towards the end of July, leggings just won’t cut it towards to end of my pregnancy.

When I finally found these maternity shorts from Kohl’s, I was pumped! They arrived pretty quickly, and after trying out a pair – for both all-day wear and a workout – I went back and bought another 3 pairs. Comfortable clothes are a must during pregnancy, are for all of you summer mamas-to-be, I highly suggest getting yourself a pair. Trust me, you won’t regret it.
Tillamook chocolate chip ice-cream
Shocker, a pregnant woman loving ice-cream. But I can truly say, this ice-cream has become, hands down, my favorite during pregnancy. The chocolate flakes in the ice-cream have a deep rich flavor without being too overwhelming. And the vanilla ice-cream itself, so so good.

I’ve shamelessly been eating a little bit of this ice-cream every night. But, at least for me, it does help with some of my pregnancy related heartburn. If that’s not a good excuse for a little bit of ice-cream every night, then I don’t know what is.
Nursery Wall decals
SimpleShapes Etsy Shop
We decided to keep our baby’s gender a secret, so we are doing our best to keep the nursery gender-neutral. My husband and I really enjoy spending time outdoors, so we decided to have a woodlands theme for our nursery. To bring the whole look together, I really wanted to have a mural behind the crib with birch trees and deer.
After realizing that trying to paint this mural would be too much of an undertaking, I started looking at decal options on Etsy. I found the exact decals that I was looking for at the SimpleShapes shop. One of the best parts is that you could customize the colors to make sure that it fits within the color scheme that you are going for.

I’ll be honest, it was a time-consuming process to put up the decals, but it was not overly difficult. And the end product was better than I could have even imagined. I found myself frequently walking into the nursery just to look at it again. I cannot wait to bring home our baby to his or her nursery ๐
Let me know in the comments what were some of your favorite things from this week.
